Experience staying in Sector -22, Dwarka, New Delhi

Hi,

I have been staying in Dwarka Sector-22 for the last one year. I must admit that before shifting there I had my own set of apprehensions about the place and the facilities. If you haev stayed in any other part of Delhi and ask anyone about moving to Dwarka ,the response is generally negative.
So, I decided to share my experiences of staying in Bank Vihar Apartments in Dwarka, Sector 22 . This might be of help to anyone who's thinking of shifting to Dwarka in general.
Well, first things first, apartments are modern in architecture with lots of facililties. Some apartments (including Bank Vihar) have temples inside the complex itself. Every society has lifts, so the floor is not a problem. In addition the 24-hour water and electricity back-up is common for most societies. Security is another good feature. All houses have intercom connections and the guards do not allow entry till the resident confirms.Other support staff includes the plumber, electrician, garbage-collector, kabadi-wala and so on. Ofcourse these facilities come at a price, you pay a high amount as maintenance charges but this is worth the comfort.
One thing that most people will tell you that water is not good and it is a problem. Well this is not entirely true. You need to consider this while looking for a house in Dwarka. There are some apartments which have a good water supply and there are some that have real problems with the water. So, always enquire the apartment resident association about the water situation. There are some apartments that have a common RO system installed and charge monthly for the service. the charges are nominal, around Rs. 150-200 depending on your water consumption and should not be a problem. In case your apartment does not have a RO installed, do enquire from the residents about the water. There might be MCD supply for a few hours everyday. In any case, having a personal RO insatlled for drinking and cooking purposes is always better. In Bank Vihar, we had to get a RO installed. The supplied water can be used for other purposes comfortably.
Another common thing that people feel is that Dwarka is not safe and commutation is a problem. Well commutation is a problem, especially in case of Sector-22. The nearest metro station is Sector 9. You can commute using rikshas and also have RTVs running. But obviously these are safe only during day-light. Once the sun sets, you are in for a problem. Most roads are deserted and its obviously not safe for girls especially to travel alone. During daytime however, commutation is not a problem.
Another thing is shops and markets. The Sector -23 market has come up and has shops. Basic things like groceries, bakery items, chemist shops, departmental stores etc. have come up in the market. There are also a few restaurants offering home-delivery. But again the problem is the distance and the fact that you need to have a car at your disposal to go and shop. Other than this, there are vegetable vendors at some society gates but these have limited things available. Obviously with such limitations, you end up paying more for things than is the standard market rate. This is however true for most of Dwarka. Things are more expensive than the surrounding areas like Janakpuri and Vikaspuri.
So, all in all , its a mixed bag. The place is coming up and has the advantages of modern flats, relatively quiet surroundings and facilitites while at the same time having the disadvatages of a new locality.
I hope this helped. Take an informed decision and you will be in for less surprises or shocks!! :)
